Below are 700mb temperature guidelines for determining mid-level capping:
| Sfc Temp | 700mb Temp |
| 80° F and below | 8° C |
| 80° F to 95° F | 10° C |
| 95° F and above | 12° C |
Please note that these guidelines are for the warm sector only, and they do not apply to areas north of warm fronts. They also do not apply to mountainous areas of the west where orographic lifting often overcomes mid-level capping.
